Work-for-Hire
Work-for-hire (WFH) is a legal arrangement in which the commissioning party - the client - owns all intellectual property rights to the created work from the moment of delivery, as if they had composed it themselves. The composer retains no ongoing rights, royalties, or reuse permissions.
Why It Matters
Work-for-hire is the gold standard for branded audio ownership. Without it, a composer retains copyright and could theoretically license the same composition to another company, withdraw permission, or demand additional fees for uses not specified in the original contract.
Example
Every Audio Hooks Studio engagement operates under a work-for-hire agreement: upon final payment, the client owns 100% of the compositions and recordings, with no license expiry, no territory restrictions, and no future royalty obligations to Audio Hooks Studio.
